WROOM “North of Forty-Five” 2xLP

I got this record in the mail for review, and I am pretty much blown away by it.  WROOM are a Portland duo on Arena Rock Recording Company that play beautiful, precise atmospheric/textural/drone/ambient music.  This album has actually been out since the beginning of the year, but this is the first time I have heard it.  Among the perfectly-placed electronics, there is a lot of really wonderful guitar work.  There are also some noisy bits, but for the most part, they keep everything low-key and smoothed out.  Even the very long songs seem concise, escaping the self-indulgent feel that sometimes besets the genre.  You can hear strong influences from things like Brian Eno, Barn Owl, and anything the Immune label would put out.  In other words, the music here is absolutely top notch.  Now, let’s talk about the actual record.  It’s a gatefold 2xLP on amazing-sounding 180 gram clear vinyl, comes with a full CD of the album, has awesome artwork, and is only $14!  It is releases like this that make me happy that I collect vinyl.  Go buy this immediately at ArenaRock.com.

one tiny typo in the title: it should be “North” – he he!
    Cheers.

  2. I love this album too. And equally good is their first album. Though it’s unfortunately not available on vinyl, “What We Mean by Hot and Cold” is amazing and beautiful electronic folk drone in all the best ways.
