The Dutchess & The Duke “Sunset / Sunrise” LP
Our friends at Hardly Art, a wonderful subsidiary of Sub Pop, are back with another great release. “Sunset / Sunrise” is the sophomore album from Seattle’s The Dutchess & The Duke. Building on the stark, melodic, acoustic sound from the first album, this new one finds them a bit more musically expanded, thanks in part to working with producer and Gris Gris frontman, Greg Ashley. They took full advantage of the “analog-equipped” studio, fleshing out a much richer and more mature album than their debut. It’s still the same dark folk music that they’ve been playing for awhile now, but with a more polished and thoroughly thought-out sound. They’re kind of like a less-adorable, dirtier Swell Season at times, and they will definitely appeal to fans of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones (isn’t that everyone?). The LP sounds superb, just as you’d expect from anyone affiliated with Sub Pop (Hardly Art’s stuff always sounds great). Best of all, this thing is a mere $10, well worth it. Visit HardlyArt.com.
