Trans Am “What Day Is It Tonight?” 2xLP + DVD
Trans Am has always been just on the peripheral edge of my radar, simply for the fact that they are on Thrill Jockey (who apparently don’t have a single mediocre band on their label). For some reason, I just never checked them out. The folks at T.J. (that’s what I call ‘em now that we’re buddies) were kind enough to send us a copy of this vinyl only 2xLP live retrospective, and the highest praise I can give is that I went in knowing nothing about this band, and came out completely converted. I can tell you the sound quality of the recording and pressing is stellar. That goes without saying, Thrill Jockey’s releases are always totally on spec. The live show cut to vinyl sounds absolutely huge and captures quite perfectly the din that this band will conjure. The gatefold jacket and the bonus DVD are just the icing the cake. Absolutely recommended. What Day Is It Tonight is limited to 1500 copies, that’s 3 hours of music for only $20 at thrilljockey.com.

i love this track but have found trans am to be very hit and miss in what i’ve heard previously so i’ll probably give this a miss
looks like really good value for money though
You can preview every single track on the order page – you should check it out. If you enjoyed the tune we posted I am pretty confident that you will enjoy the entire release. But yeah, definitely an excellent value.
you seem to be my personal music recommender! thanks
didn’t go for the oneohtrix but may well go for this one…
We write about the music we like, so it’s pretty easy for us to make recommendations. I’m the one that wrote this post and the Oneohtrix Point Never post, fyi. Our names don’t show up on our write-ups, just in the comments.
that’s cool- i only have a very limited budget though so i may not post another comment for a while in case your enthusiasm persuades me to part with yet more cash!
so many great records, so many shitty, low paid jobs…
Me and Mitch’s next website is going to be a forum-based support group for vinyl addiction. It is a debilitating affliction that ruins families and will turn you into a mere husk of the man you once were.
Looks like I know what I’m getting myself for an early Christmas present. Thanks for the heads up, OMGV. I loves me some Trans Am!!! *very happy*
arrived today- very happy- IMMENSE record- thanks from me to you for the stellar recommendation!
