Pale Blue Sky, Ryan Garbes, Copper Glove – New Vinyl on Arbor

Three new vinyl releases have just been made available on the Arbor Catalog. The sounds from this label are always interesting and experimental, if not exactly tailored for mass consumption. First up is Pale Blue Sky with Shades of Grey, a 12″ EP limited to merely 400 copies. Pale Blue Sky is none other than Mike Pollard, formerly known as Treetops. I’ll go ahead and nullify any assumed scene credentials and say that I have no idea who he is, but he sounds important (plus he runs the Arbor label) and I am definitely digging the samples posted in the catalog. $12 at arborinfinity.com for this 45-rpm slab of droning ambiance. Next we have a 7″ single from Iowa City stickman Ryan Garbes, previously seen hitting skins in groups like Wet Hair and Raccoo-oo-oon, two bands I actually have heard of but maybe that’s just because I rep Iowa to the fullest. Real Sugar b/w The Lights is limited to 300 copies of 4-tracked, bedroom-reverb pop.

Lastly we have Surviving the Garden of Hate from Copper Glove. Industrial noise isn’t exactly my area of expertise so I’ll hit you off with a couple of choice phrases from the label write-up: “nihilistic optimism… ideological aggression…” pretty much sums it up. Not exactly my thing really, but that’s what I said about the Rale 12″ previously released on Arbor, which with repeated listening is slowly becoming one of my favorite drone recordings. It’s certainly strange how this noise manages to work its way under your skin… 300 copies with silk-screened covers available now for $7. More info and ordering at arborinfinity.com.

Oh, there are also some pretty interesting new cassette tapes available, but we wouldn’t tell you about that. This is a vinyl blog, after all.
