It’s been a little bit since I’ve gotten to write about some good doom metal records, and that’s exactly what Important Records just dropped on the masses. First up is the year-and-a-half late vinyl issue of Ocean’s heavy, heavy album, “Pantheon Of The Lesser”. This 2xLP comes on clear (edition of 100), orange (edition of 100), or black vinyl (edition of 300). It is housed in a four-part handmade letterpress jacket. All this for $25. Visit ImportantRecords.com.
Secondly, they’ve released the 2007 Nadja album, “Thaumogenesis”. Let me just have Aquarious sum this one up for you: “One single 62 minute long track, bass, guitar and drum machine, all woven into a slowly undulating soundscape of blissy drone and monstrous pummel…It’s like some Frankensteinian collage of Godflesh, Jesu, Sunn O))), and old Swans. It’s heavy and bleak and doomy, but like Jesu, the sound is imbued with a strange warmth, and emotional mystery, that makes this much more than an exercise in guitardrone.” The 2xLP is limited to 1000 copies with 100 on clear/gold, 100 on purple, and 800 on black. The packaging was designed by Seldon Hunt. Grab a copy for $20 at ImportantRecords.com.
Lastly, they’ve got a crazy collaborative record by The Skull Defekts. Again, I’m going to bow to the website description here: “Swedish drone/ritual rock group The Skull Defekts is back with a new limited edition vinyl LP. This time, we are dealing with two unique collaborations. The first one is a live recording from Fylkingen, Stockholm where The Skull Defekts met oscillator master CM von Hausswolff in a deep drone meeting. The second one is a studio recording together with the infamous performance and noise duo The Sons of God, Kent Tankred and Leif Elggren. This is truly deep stuff, man.” The LP is limited to 500 copies (the first 100 of which will come on red vinyl) and costs $15. Same place, ImportantRecords.com.
Here’s a tune off their last album:
