The reissue of Barn Owl’s early opus, “From Our Mouths A Perpetual Light”, is pretty huge in our eyes, as we’ve both spent a good amount of time tracking down copies in the past. The album is, no exaggeration, one of the best drone/psych LPs to come out in the past half-decade. They’ve gotten a lot more popular in the three years since this was released, but it stands as tall as anything they’ve done since. If you’re into the dark, experimental music that we peddle daily here, consider this absolutely essential. It was repressed on white vinyl in a final edition of 350 and costs $12 at NotNotFun.com.
The second new release from NNF comes courtesy of San Francisco’s Jonas Reinhardt. “Music For The Tactile Dome” brings the same spacey, kraut-y brand of psychedelia that won fans over after his album on Kranky last year. He’s added drummer Damon Palermo (Mi Ami), bassist Diego Gonzalez (Citay, 3 Leafs), and guitarist Phil Manley (Trans Am, more) to the mix, boosting his aesthetic to full-fledged mind meld. The LP is limited to 650 copies and costs $12 at NotNotFun.com.
Also check out the site for new tapes from Cankun and Peaking Lights, plus reissues from Ensemble Economique, Pocahaunted, and Robedoor. Top notch everything.
