I’ve been really, really excited about the new Black Mountain album, their first two records are in constant rotation on my turntable. ”Wilderness Heart” is a little bit more straightforward rock than their last one, but I still think it’s great. For some reason, “In The Future” always sounded pretty dark and occult to me, this one sounds much less like that for me, even ditching a bit of the heavy psychedelia. That said, it’s completely solid and will likely sneak into my top albums at the end of the year. You can preorder the LP for only $12.50 at Jagjaguwar.

We couldn’t possibly be any more excited for a new album from Sweden’s Dungen. These guys have staked out a unique claim in the modern rock landscape by raining acid-sunshine guitar licks upon all the hip young men in tight jeans and busting out smooth jazz melodies for the ladies. The sensual sounds of the Swedish countryside – album title roughly translates to “Fuck All”. You can listen to a new song at mexicansummer.com, they will be releasing the domestic pressing of this album at some point. For now you can buy the Subliminal Sounds import from forcedexposure.com.

OMGV label favorite Woodsist now has a vinyl edition of their previously released on cassette compilation Welcome Home / Diggin’ The Universe. If you picked up that cassette version, then you know this is a great compilation – featuring tracks from Woods, Moon Duo and a slew of other Woodsist artists that we talk about here pretty regularly. It’s been on repeat in my tape deck for several weeks now. Pick this one up for $15.75 shipped at woodsist.blogspot.com, or pick up the tape at the same place for $8.75.

I was just about to write about the new Mountain Man 10″ EP coming out July 20th on Underwater Peoples, but the full-length album that comes out the same day has the same five songs, plus eight more. I’m gonna have to say that the full album is the safer bet, but the EP contains alternate takes (some of which ARE better), so if you become a Moutain Man megafan after reading this, you should probably pick up both. Plus, Underwater Peoples rules. Anyway, Vermont’s Mountain Man is actually three women, Molly Erin Sarle, Alexandra Sauser-Monnig and Amelia Randall Meath. They play beautiful, harmonic folk music, stuff that should appeal to anyone that loved Fleet Foxes or Bon Iver, though this is far more rustic and homemade. I’d be quite surprised if these ladies didn’t blow up pretty big soon, so jump on this train early. The LP is available on 180 gram coke bottle green vinyl (limited to 300) for $20 or 180 gram black vinyl for $14. Visit PartisanRecords.com.

Meant to tell you guys about this one a little earlier but seeing as how Blackest Rainbow is now shipping out pre-orders with less than 15 copies left in stock I have pretty much failed all of you occult-folk fanatics (of which there are probably also less than 15). To be honest, I was not able to get my hands on their last release so I could not tell you exactly what is going on with these fellows – but I love their album art and I love the phrase “occult-folk”. The fact that there are only 15 left at the source hopefully means that there are plenty on their way to distros. I guess we will see, Blackest Rainbow releases sure do tend to disappear fast.

Just caught wind of this amazing new record that totally knocked me off my feet. “&hope still” is the new album by Texas one-man-band, Silent Land Time Machine. This is pretty much the most unclassifiable and impossible to pigeonhole piece of music I’ve ever listened to. Layers upon layers of instruments eventually transform these songs into full-on rural outsider barnburning jam sessions. I won’t go on and on about this, as I will only talk in circles about how hard it is to define, but I can tell you that I could not recommend it more enthusiastically. 100% essential. The LP version is on 180 gram vinyl with a fold-out cover and insert, has a hand-numbered edition of 300, and is only $18 shipped. It’s actually a co-release with Time-Lag, so you know we’re dealing with top quality here. Word is the label only has 30-40 copies left for sale, so hurry over to IndianQueenRecords.com.

Break out your rawhide blouses and battle maces, gentlemen. This epic 7xLP tome has been ensconced in a wooden box, hewn from the plank of a tree failed by a lumberjack wearing panda makeup and spiked amulets. In all seriousness though, these 3 albums from occult-folksters Agalloch have been out-of-print and fetching large sums on eBay for many, many moons now. Best unloosen your satchel and shake out some gold pieces for the folks at vivahaterecords.com. Black vinyl is limited to 350 mailorder copies, the rarer color is already long gone.
