This is surely one of the finest releases to surface in celebration of 2013’s Record Store Day, coming from a criminally under-appreciated label, Tompkins Square. The sixth volume in their Imaginational Anthem series focuses on the Origins of American Primitive Guitar, presenting songs recorded between 1923 and 1930, lovingly transferred and remastered from 78rpm records by Christopher King. A singular and astonishing entry amidst all the overblown Record Store Day reissue hype.
We had a hard time tracking down a copy, but were able to order one from rainydayolympia.net as of last night. You should, too. UPDATE: now available from beta.forcedexposure.com!
A tip of the hat to the always on-point Metal Viking at NPR Music for pointing us in the right direction.
