Maniac Soundtrack LP from Mondo!

Mondo, best known for their screenprinted movie posters, just put their first ever vinyl record up for sale. It’s a brand new, fully remastered pressing of Jay Chattaway’s Maniac soundtrack. If you listen to drone and experimental music, you’ll feel right at home here, it totally sounds like something that could come out as a low-run cassette tape today. The LP is pressed on 200 gram vinyl with new artwork and liner notes for $20. Limited to 500 copies via Mondotees.com.

  1. Extremely hard to get anything from mondotees, their products sell out in around 10 to 30 minutes and then wind up on eBay for double or triple the price. Some of us have lives. You might as well start this post with “Here’s a record none of you will be able to get so go fuck yourself.”

  2. Sold Out! I must of grabbed one of the last copies because it was sold out almost immediately after I bought it…

  3. C’mon, Frank Zito, you’re just spitting vitriol. It was up for almost 12 hours, plus announced a day in advance. Not sure what more they could’ve done to prepare you.

  4. Frank Zito ain’t alone in his sentiments. IMO, Mondo made more accessible and amplified the greedier/crummier elements of poster collecting and I hope their attention to vinyl doesn’t have the same effect.

  5. Full disclosure, I work for Mondo. That said, I don’t really think they should be blamed for what customers do with their posters on the aftermarket. if anything, it’s a testament to a well-curated and art directed poster series.

  6. A day in advance huh, I guess that’s fair notice by Mondo standards. I’m just pissed I missed this one, and I do my best to stay on top of Mondo releases, honestly, but I had no idea they were going to start selling vinyl. But there’s an easy solution, make more! Sold out in 12 hours, that’s a huge success man, congrats! Do you think people would stop buying such a “well-curated” product if everyone who wanted a copy could get one? And no you can’t be blamed for what customers do with their product after they buy it, but artificial scarcity drives up prices. Seriously though, when’s the next release!!!!

  7. Hi Mitchell maybe you can help, I emailed your employer but they have not responded…are any stores/distros getting this record?

  8. I can relate to being annoyed with labels that generate artificial demand by creating uber limited editions that will sell out in the blink of an eye, but honestly, how many times do you think anyone will listen to the soundtrack for a B-grade horror movie? You keep that and I’ll keep my Zombi LPs.

  9. No copies are going to stores/distros.

  10. Frank Zito is right. People who are fans of this kind of stuff should be helping each other out, not creating a perfect storm of dickishness by playing into the eBay-frenzy cock-off culture. It’s a shame – I would have enjoyed this record a lot, but I just found out about its existence.

  11. I will trade a sealed copy of this for a sealed vinyl copy of Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World

  12. any chance to get one?
pay a very good price now…!
