The new album from Cultes Des Ghoules, which will shortly be released on vinyl by Hells Headbangers, is currently available to order as a cult cassette edition of 500. It’s simply the most legitimately evil release to come out so far this year; prepare for yourself for that. You can order a tape from black-death-satan.de.
Exciting news this morning, as we are finally ready to announce this giveaway from Mexican Summer and Alex and Emil’s Lilacs & Champagne project. Their excellent new album is out this week, and to celebrate the label is giving away a test pressing to one of our readers. What’s more, we have a second prize being offered up by Alex and Emil: a signed LP, slipmat and poster. Two prizes, two winners. To enter, just comment on this post. A winner will be picked at random in about 24 hours (sometime Thursday morning). Please only enter once, we will be checking for double-ups. If your comment doesn’t show up right away, be patient, it is probably awaiting moderation. Either way, pick up the new album at mexicansummer.com.
The lucky numbers (from the Random Number Generator at random.org) were 157 and 207. Congratulations Alanna and Pat, you are our winners and you have been contacted! Thanks for playing, everyone. More giveaways coming soon.
The newest album from The Haxan Cloak, on Tri Angle Records, is sounding superb. We can only imagine what a quality vinyl pressing will do to bring these nocturnal noises to life. Literally, we can only imagine, because right now it’s only available for pre-order. Perfect, dark electronics. Claim a copy on 2xLP at boomkat.com or insound.com.
This is surely one of the finest releases to surface in celebration of 2013′s Record Store Day, coming from a criminally under-appreciated label, Tompkins Square. The sixth volume in their Imaginational Anthem series focuses on the Origins of American Primitive Guitar, presenting songs recorded between 1923 and 1930, lovingly transferred and remastered from 78rpm records by Christopher King. A singular and astonishing entry amidst all the overblown Record Store Day reissue hype. We had a hard time tracking down a copy, but were able to order one from rainydayolympia.net as of last night. You should, too. UPDATE: now available from beta.forcedexposure.com!
A tip of the hat to the always on-point Metal Viking at NPR Music for pointing us in the right direction.
Portal’s Vexovoid, and all the madness and depravity that comes packaged with it, is now available on vinyl. You can find a few songs to stream on the internet, but you really just need to gather yourself, purchase it, take it home and spin it. This is distributed by midheaven.com so it should be available soon in many fine distros, including at darkdescentrecords.com right now!
While we’re on the topic of the “criminally under-appreciated” Tompkins Square, it seems it would also be our duty to alert you to this stunning reissue of Don Bikoff’s lone album, originally released in 1968, and featuring the type of subtly psychedelic, solo acoustic guitar sound that fits so perfectly on the vinyl format. Celestial Explosion can be purchased on LP for $15 at tompkinssquare.com.
And lest we forget, there are still modern practitioners of the solo acoustic style, informed and inspired by the magic fingers of decades past. Case in point: Chuck Johnson’s newest album, Crows In The Basilica, is now available to pre-order on high-spec vinyl over at threelobed.com.
If any of you were out waiting in lines on Saturday (and I’m sure you were), then hopefully you had a chance to pick up this excellent new LP on Three Lobed featuring Steve Gunn and Hiss Golden Messenger, pressed up extra special for Record Store Day 2013. If not, here’s your chance to try again: shop.heavenandearthmagic.com. Twenty bucks, psychedelic backporch vibes for days and days.
The onslaught (against my wallet) continues! Next up on the Earache reissue roster is The IVth Crusade from Bolt Thrower. As usual, you can order a few different colors (or colours, for the Europeans) of vinyl. As usual, the more limited colors are more expensive. Order at earache.com. Europeans can order from the European store: earache.com.
We don’t have a lot of information on this one, but it appears (based on this pre-order) that Sigur Rós will be re-releasing the Hvarf/Heim double album as a (hopefully less limited than the last) vinyl edition. So don’t give in to those eBay prices just yet, maybe see how this pans out: shopradiocast.com.
