European metal labels better than Hypertension Records are few and far between. These wonderful Belgians have once again blessed us with two fresh vinyl releases, both from fellow countrymen, and both with really great-sounding pressings. The first is the new LP pressing of Kingdom’s “Hemeltraan”, a slow, brooding foray into metal and drone. Largely instrumental, the album offers some crushingly heavy doom riffs interspersed with long passages of quiet ambiance. This definitely transcends the whole post-rock/instrumental metal that has been done to death lately, somehow offering surprising creativity (probably because the band features members of Amenra, The Black Heart Rebellion and Blind To Faith). The LP comes on orange vinyl, includes a poster, and costs €14 at HypertensionRecords.com.
The second new one is “Master” from Drums Are For Parades. Not the usual metal fare Hypertension is known for, this band plays fast, angular rock. It sounds pretty damn interesting and original, so it’s probably best to just let the clip below do the talking. This is a great, very different signing for the label, compliments all-around. The LP comes on white or clear vinyl for €15 at HypertensionRecords.com.
PS, while you’re there, and since you’re already paying for overseas shipping, it’s recommended that you pick up their new reissue of Zombi’s “Surface To Air” LP, or the seriously underrated “Folie Circulaire” from Withered.
