I got incredibly excited when this debut full-length from Minneapolis’ whitesand/badlands hit my doorstep, mostly based on the strength of the 7″ that came before. On the surface, this record is a dark, melancholy affair, but it offers so many things that you just don’t hear from indie rock anymore, it is sure to transport you instantly to your turn of the century self. Always a little more complex and well-thought-out than you’d normally expect, the compositions here feel the opposite of rushed, rather marinated on and obsessed over through years of change. The 2xLP vinyl sounds superb, the artwork by Casey Deming is great, and the whole package only costs $25 shipped. The fact that there are still bands this good out there that are virtually unknown restores my faith in music. Order directly from the band at whitesandbadlands.com.
